چکیده
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the influence of key characteristics on adolescent alcohol misuse ( i s . , matcrnal binge drinking, parenting, peers, school charactcristics, and the adolescent's own behavior) change over time and whether predictors of adolescent alcohol misuse vary by gender and racelethnicity. Using prospective, longitudinal data from a community sample, results revealed that mother's hinge drinking, peer drinking, and an early age of onset predicted higher levels of alcohol misuse when respondents were 14-16 years of age. Two years later, when adolescents were 1618 years of age, maternal binge drinking was no longer significant, however, maternal attachment, school attachment, peer drinking, and early age of onset Kimberly A. School contextual influences on the risk for adolescent alcohol misuse.
This study investigates the association between school context and adolescent alcohol misuse. Data are from the first two waves of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (N = 10,574 adolescents nested within 128 schools). Multilevel multinomial logistic regression is used to assess the association between school-level characteristics and the risk for non-, moderate, and heavy drin...
متن کاملExamining Genetic and Environmental Influences on Alcohol use and Externalizing Behaviors in African American Adolescents
Background: Genetic and environmental factors influence substance use behaviors in youth. One of the known environmental risk factors is exposure to life stressors. The aim of this project is to study the interaction between NR3C1 and CRHBP, genes thought to be involved in stress pathways, exposure to stressful life events, and adolescent alcohol use/misuse. Methods: The sample included 541 Afr...

متن کاملProspective risk factors for alcohol misuse in late adolescence.
OBJECTIVE This longitudinal study investigated Grade-7 and Grade-10 risk factors for alcohol misuse at Grade 12. Alcohol misuse was conceptualized as problem-related drinking (e.g., missing school), high-risk drinking (e.g., drunk driving) and high consumption. METHOD Prospective analyses using two-part models predicted any alcohol misuse and the amount of misuse (given that some has occurred...
متن کاملThe long arm of expectancies: adolescent alcohol expectancies predict adult alcohol use.
AIMS Alcohol expectancies are strong concurrent predictors of alcohol use and problems, but the current study addressed their unique power to predict from adolescence to midlife. METHOD Long-term longitudinal data from the national British Cohort Study 1970 (N = 2146, 59.8% female) were used to predict alcohol use and misuse in the mid-30s by alcohol expectancies reported in adolescence. RE...
